Alibaba heads records in Ukraine: Ukrainians ranked 2nd in the world as regards the number orders made from AliExpress

The number of orders made by Ukrainians from AliExpress in the first 10 months of this year increased by 70%. This made Ukraine AliExpress top 2 market in terms of yoy growth rate on the marketplace. By gross merchandise volume in 2019, Ukraine become AliExpress’s top 10 market.
Over the three quarters of 2019, Ukrposhta has already delivered more than 20 million of shipments from China. The major part of the shipped items are goods ordered from online stores. These goods are mostly purchased by 24-35 years old Ukrainians and over 50% of the purchases are made via smartphones on AliExpress. According to the platform data, the most popular categories among Ukrainians are Phones and Telecommunications, Consumer Electronics, Automobiles and Motorcycles.
Residents of Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions are the main Ukrainian AliExpress buyers. Ukrposhta delivered 56% of parcels ordered by Ukrainians from China to these three regions.
“The reason for the rapid growth of import from China I see in launching of special AliExpress Cainiao Super Economy non-trackable shipping service, designed for the goods worth up to 2 USD and AliExpress Saver limited tracking shipping service for the goods worth up to 5 USD. This allowed AliExpress sellers to reduce their goods cost and to offer Ukrainian consumers free delivery service. According to Ukrposhta, more than 30% of all Chinese shipments contain goods worth up to 2 USD”, said Ukrposhta First Deputy Director General for Operations, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi.
AliExpress 11.11 Global Shopping Festival will be traditionally held on November 11 2019. Last year, within 24 hours, Shopping festival accumulated more than 1 billion orders totaling 30.8 billion USD. According to Ukrposhta, due to November sales, the increases of postal items volume makes more than 70% to the average monthly volume.
